Canyoning
General infos:
Meeting time: 9.30am
Meeting point: Centro Canyoning Pitrisconi
Duration: 5-7 hours depending on the group speed
Canyon length: 1,12 kms
The Pitrisconi River is located in the heart of the Monte Nieddu massif, on the San Teodoro side. It is certainly one of the most enjoyable canyoning routes in all of Sardinia. Since the overall difficulty is rated PD (slightly difficult), it is an ideal canyoning experience for those approaching this world for the first time.
The calm and never turbulent waters of the Pitrisconi River also make it perfect for beginners seeking adrenaline and excitement. The only requirements are, of course: not suffering from vertigo, being able to swim, and being in good physical condition.
Shuttle will leave us 5 minutes far from riverbed. We'll start with a first 5-meter abseil, leading into a beautiful natural pool up to 4 meters deep. Here, several jumps into crystal-clear water are possible. After a short walk, you reach the hanging pool, from which a 4-meter jump or a fun 3-meter slide (toboggan) leads to the 20-meter abseil—the most vertical and adrenaline-filled descent of the entire canyon. With a water flow exceeding 200 liters, it is advisable to use a short zip line to reach the anchor point.
At the base of this stunning waterfall, the aquatic route continues, sliding beneath a large boulder and reaching an emerald-colored natural pool, where you can enjoy a 6-meter slide or a 5-meter jump. After a few minutes, you encounter another spectacular 13-meter abseil alongside a majestic waterfall. Once down, you swim to the edge, reaching a vantage point that offers a breathtaking view of the “Pitriòlu” pool in all its wild beauty.
Continuing through the canyon, an exposed slide can be avoided via a short downclimb, followed by swimming through a small natural pool. From here, the river becomes more linear, with no further rope descents, only progression along the riverbed. After about one kilometer, you reach the final natural pool, accessible via a 7-meter jump or an abseil of the same height.
NOTE: A steep 45 minutes hike is needed to reach the 4x4 for the pick-up at the end of the canyon.
